Our ward went to Moab and Montecello for a temple rip and some camping fun. We would stay one night. On Friday I went down there with Rich, Nicole, and Charleese. O boy what a trip. Half way to Moab, Charleese all of a sudden begins to moan and groan, which finally developed into screaming. We found out that she had been to the hospital that morning at 5 a.m. for a Kidney stone. The doctor told her if she took the medication and it would not hurt in the next few hours that she could probably come on the trip. We called 911 and asked for the nearest hospital. 911 asked us "can you hold?" and after explaining our situation connected us to another emergency line that was supposedly responsible for that part of the area we were in at the moment. once connected there they were not sure if we were in the area they were responsible for. Finally, we saw a police officer on the side of the road giving a speeding ticket. Rich jumped out of the car and told the officer we needed help. We then were escorted to the nearest health facility and were allowed to go 95-100 Miles/hour.
I am a CNA (certified nursing assistant) and was intrigued by the whole thing. I was allowed to stand by Chaleese the whole time(4 hours)while she received treatment and to help occasionally. Then she needed to be transfered to the bigger hospital in Moab 1/2 hours away. Doped with Morphene, we got Chaleese there just in time and then went on to meet the group for camping. It was 8 p.m. Chaleese was able to come "home" to the camp that night, but I was still concerned for her well-being and woke up several times during the night to check on her. She finally bagan waking up and being hungry at about 2 a.m. and, since there was not anything else, started eating Reeses Peanut Butter Cups! It was hillarious because I could just hear the silver foil and then "mzzz" "smmmz" "stzz."
At 4 a.m. I got up to go to National Arches with a group to see the sun rise. I was not going to miss that! The hike was just beautiful, although I wished I have had a little more sleep.
On our way back to Provo and SLC, we stopped at Dead Horse Point, my absolutely favourite place!!! See more at http://www.utah.com/stateparks/dead_horse.htm When the wind does not blow, there is absolutely no noise to hear. Everything quiet. It reminded me of olden times (e.g. Nephi, Moroni) when people surely must have heard promptings much clearer because there were not so many distractions.
At that time I was so tired it was almost unbearable. My friends took videos and pictures of me as I recounted to them my story of being a mermaid that was left over from when the big waters evaporated 10000000 years ago. I told them I had been stuck on this rock ever since. Only the right prince could one day deliver me. :-)
More pictures of the sunrise-hike to Arches to come soon.
