Sunday Thought

Wow, time flies by. I have to update my blog. Church was very inspiring today. We talked about Pres. Gordon B. Hinkley's General Conference talk on "Faith to move mountains":

Faith should be an active power in our lives, not just a passive thought. Faith is an action; it begins with hope. This led me to think of the inspiring example of Brigham Young, especially after having graduated from Brigham Young University and while trying to find my ways out into the world and work force. brigham Young led a great company of early Latter-day Saints into the West of America to settle there. He had no previous experience leading such a big group across the planes. He had a frightening load of responsibility resting on his shoulders. The remarcable thing was that Brigham Young often did not receive answers to his prayers while praying for guidance in leading the people (I learned that at a documantary/exhibition at the BYU libary special collections). I still remember the picture of him standing in front of his fire place deep in thought and turmoil to receive direction. Many people in the company he lead were starting to get sick, were cold, and close to starvation. Some had died. In this moment, Brigham Young, still not getting inspiration, just made the best decision he could make and led the Saints slowly to the Utah area. The Lord magnified his efforts and great fruits came from it. From Brigham Young's experience probably came his later saying that we, who are learning to become co-creators with God, need to sometimes step into the dark and try our best, not knowing what will come from it nor the sacrifices it will entail.

Without Brigham Young's faith, I would not be here in the United States today and I would not have had the opportunity to study at Brigham Young University. I love this man. I love his faith. I am grateful for his courrage and endurance.

Glauben sollte eine aktieve Kraft sein in unseren Leben, und nicht nur ein passiever Gedanke. Glauben ist Handeln; es beginnt mit Hoffnung. Dies hat mich an das hervorragende Beispiel Brigham Young's erinnert, der eine grosse Gruppe von fruehen Bekehrten, Pioniere der Kirche der Heiligen der letzten Tage, in den Westen Amerika's gefuehrt hat um dort anzusiedeln. Seine Verantwortung was erschrekend gross. Er hatte keine Erfahrung im durchziehen der Wilderness. Das Bemerkenswerte war dass Brigham Young oft keine Antwort auf seine Gebete bezueglich Fuehrung erhielt. Die Last wurde schwerer als viele Leute krank wurden, frierten, und hungerten. Einige starben. In dieser Lage, immer noch ohne Antwort auf sein Gebet, traf Brigham Young Entscheidungen die die fruehen Pioniere letzt endlich nach Utah fuehrten. Seine Bemuehungen wurden vom Vater im Himmel belohnt und fuehrte zu grossen, bemerkenswerten Resultaten. Von Brigham Young's Erfahrung kommt warscheinlich sein Spruch dass wir, um "Mit-Schoepfer" mit Gott zu werden auf Erden manchmal in das Dunkle tappen muessen und unser Bestes geben, ohne zu wissen was die Resultate sein werden und was fuer Opfer es von uns verlangen wird.

Ohne Brigham Young's Glauben haette ich nicht die Gelegenheit gehabt nach Amerika zu kommen und and der Brigham Young Universitaet zu studieren. Ich liebe diesen Mann und ich liebe seinen Glauben. Ich bin dankbar fuer seinen Mut und seine Ausdauer.

I found some nice pictures that remind me of the wonderful time I had in California last year. This is my friend Makiko and I on the LA temple grounds during Thanksgiving week. If you look closely, you can see some of the Christmas decoration. It never occured to me, but Christmas in CA must be so different. I thought it was funny to see Christmas deco and palm trees in one place. I loved the weather there!

Ich habe einige schoene Bilder gefunden die mich an meine Zeit in dem sonnigen Kalifornien leztes Jahr erinnern. Dies ist meine Freundin Makiko und ich im Los Angeles temple Garten zur Erntedankfestzeit. Wenn Ihr genau hinschaut koennt Ihr vielleicht die Weihnachtsdekoration sehen. Ich fand es faszinierend dass ich Weihnachtsdekoration und Palmen zur selben Zeit erblickte. Das Wetter war das Beste dort.
